7. What Does Messiah Means?

Many peoples accused Reverend Moon of being the antichrist described in the Bible. However few know the word antichrist’s origin. This word is composed by the prefix “anti” that means “against” and the Greek’s word “Christ” (or Messiah in Hebrew) that means “king” or “anointed.” Messiah was a name given to the blessed king by the high priest in the ancient Israel society. The priest granted the authority of God to the king. There was no king’s authority separate from the priest’s authority .There was no separation between the government and religion.

King David was blessed so his children could also inherit the right to succeed in the throne of Israel.

After King Solomon’s death, the kingdom of Israel was separated in two nations and for about 400 years, there were fights for power, wars and invasions of foreign nations.

They suffered invasions of Assyria, Babylon, Persia and Macedonia (Alexander The Great). Alexander The Great died when he was 33 years old. His Empire was divided among his generals Seleucus, Lysimachus, Ptolemy and Cassander.

One of the heirs of Seleucid Empire called Antiochus IV Epiphanes decided to invade Jerusalem (167 BC), sacrificing a pig in the altar of the temple of Jerusalem, an animal considered impure in the Jewish laws.

A family of priests decided to make a war against Antioch in order to restore the politic-religious independence. This was known as Maccabeus war (164BC).

Antioch was called of Antichrist for being a military government power that persecuted the lineage of king David and the Jewish religion.

The apostle Paul said the Antichrist would persecute Christians. In fact the Roman emperors Nero, Trajan, Marcus Aurelius and many others systematically persecuted Christians until the Christianity turned to be the official religion of the Roman Empire.

The word antichrist then was used to designate any government that uses the military power to persecute the religion.

Some who could fit in this description are Hitler who massacred thousands of Jews; Stalin who systematically killed thousands of religious persons in his attempt to eradicate the religion in the former Soviet Union and Japan before the Second World War.

Japan at that time had conquered practically the whole Asia trying to eliminate the local religions in substitution to the goddess’ Amaterasu cult.

Many Christians in Korea were killed and tortured for denying worshiping this goddess.

In the Kanto earthquake in 1923, about 6000 Korean who lived in Tokyo were killed for being accused of causing the earthquake. (Something similar happened with the Christians in Rome when Nero set on fire Rome and blamed the Christians for it).

In the manifestation for the independence of Korea in First of March of 1919, Japanese crucified thirty-three independence movement Christian leaders. A 15 year-old girl called Yu Gan Soon shouting the words “Korea Mansei (Independence)” while running on the streets of Seoul was arrested, imprisoned under inhuman conditions and her body was quartered in 6 pieces.

During Second World War about 200.000 Korean women were used as sexual slaves (comfort women) by the Japanese army. Each woman was forced to serve about 30 soldiers per night and to work during daytime.

Antichrist, as we explained before, is a government that uses the military power to persecute the religion.

Reverend Moon is not a dictator of any country and also he never used military power to persecute any religion. Therefore, the accusations that he would be the antichrist are simply without any foundation.

Reverend Moon is a religious man and his ambition simply consists in practicing his love for God and the humanity in a realistic way. His idea of salvation of the world is not only an idea but are more than a hundred of projects for the improvement of society and understanding of the real problems of the world as hunger, poverty, crime and ignorance.

Can this man, who worries about the moral decadence and finance projects uniting people of goodwill from all religious and political backgrounds to trying to find practical solutions for the evils of the current society, be called an antichrist?
